Deep Sea Adventures (DSA) of West Palm Beach Florida and the Cape Eleuthera Institute (CEI) will be undertaking an undersea project in the Bahamas utilizing the submersible PC1201 sometime in the spring of 2008.
CEI is located on the leeward side on the Island of Eleuthera at Powell point. DSA will operate a shore based submersible project from the Point to provide economical submersible operations to the scientific community in depths to 1000 feet.
Powell point is an excellent location with a deep man made harbor, excellent sea state conditions year round, and a short distance to deep water. The deep escarpment adjacent to the harbor entrance offers an opportunity to study and provide educational experiences on the little know ecology of a tropical deep reef system.
PC1201 will be towed to a variety of sites along the deep reef escarpment and will be brought back to the marina each night for servicing. Launch and retrieval will take place in the harbor utilizing a mobile crane. The submersible pilots associated with DSA have made thousands of dives and are the most experienced in the field.
Lab space, room and board, and all logistical support will be provided by CEI.
