DSA personnel have been coordinating and providing consulting services to the Maritime Communication Services division of the Harris Corporation in support of their Ocean Net telemetry buoy development program since 2002. DSA assisted with the development of a buoy deployment and recovery plan, specified the repair methodology and supervised an actual test of these procedures prior to their implementation in the field.
In January of 2004, DSA was contracted by the Maritime Communication Services (MCS) division of the Harris Corporation to support the deployment of their third Ocean Net buoy, which successfully began operating in June of last year approximately 80 nautical miles off the coast of Cyprus in 2,800 meters of water.
The Ocean Net buoys are used to collect data from an array of sensors and underwater vehicles on the seabed and to transmit this data via satellite in real time to/from their operational base (ONCC) in Melbourne, Florida. DSA personnel provided project management and technical services to support Harris/MCS from February to the middle of June 2004. In addition, DSA personnel were responsible for overseeing all aspects of the buoy #3 deployment process during a seven-week period on site. Four vessels and over 50 people participated in the deployment, which included DSA, Harris/MCS, Phoenix International and EDT personnel.
DSA has an ongoing technical support contract with Harris/MCS for their Ocean Net program as a direct result of our successful collaboration on deployment.
In May of 2005, DSA made the necessary arrangements for the transport of buoy 2 from Sardinia, Italy to Port Canaveral Florida. We assisted Harris/MCS by selecting the vessel, making the booking and coordinating all aspects of the move aboard the heavy lift ship MV Fair Partner (see pictures from this activity).
In addition, DSA personnel were responsible for the planning and assisted in overseeing all major aspects of the Buoy # 3 deployment process during a seven-week period on site in conjunction with the Harris/MCS lead. Four vessels and over 50 people participated in the deployment, which included DSA, Harris/MCS, Phoenix International".
