Marlin Submarines Limited - "Lula" (S103) - Vegetable Oil Burning Diesel-Electric Powered Submarine Capable of Diving to 500 Meters

A member of the DSA management team was partially responsible for the design, manufacture and testing of a three man, vegetable oil burning diesel/electric, 500-meter depth rated research submarine (S103), which is owned and operated by a Portuguese marine science foundation based on the island of Faial in the Azores (Foundation Rebikoff-Niggler or FRN). Our responsibilities included the design of all major life support, ballast control and electrical operating systems as well as many aspects of the ABS approval and certification process while the vessel was under construction at the facility in the UK under the supervision of the owner's representative, Joachim Jacobsen. LULA was subsequently completed by the owners's representative at their own facility in the Azores.
