World's Only All Acrylic Tourist Submarine (formerly the COMEX SEABUS)
The Comex Deepstar (formerly the Comex Seabus) is the World's only all-acrylic pressure hull tourist submarine. Built by Comex, S.A. of Marseille, France, the Deepstar has proven itself to be exceptionally reliable with over 3,200 incident free dives to the vessels credit to date. Comex, formed in 1961, has built over 30 submarines, primarily for the offshore oil industry, military navies and foreign states. The Deepstar is capable of carrying 45 passengers in air-conditioned comfort to a depth of 80 meters (260 feet). The Deepstar was built according to and certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) rules but certification for this vessel lapsed in 2003.
DSA personnel recently authored an exhaustive survey document on the Comex Seabus for a client, which outlines the specific requirements to renew certification with ABS. The Comex Seabus is the World's first and only all acrylic passenger carrying submersible. It is currently in storage at the Bradford Marine facility in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. The vessel is available for sale as is where is and could be returned to an operational condition using DSA personnel in approximately 12 months.
