Diver Lock Out Submersible (renamed XPC15), Which Was Converted Into a Four Person Observation Submersible Capable of Diving to 1,000 Feet (330m)
DSA personnel were involved in the original conversion of this submersible from a diver lock out oil field submersible into a four-passenger private observations submersible.
DSA personnel assisted with the design, modification, ABS approval, installation and testing of the electrical/electronic systems in this four passenger manned submersible, which is capable of diving to 1,000 feet (300m). Initially, the modified XPC15 was installed and operated aboard a 200-foot (60m) long luxury motor yacht ("Mystere"). DSA personnel also authored the maintenance and operating manuals for this submersible.
However, since the submersible was not used, the owner decided to sell the boat to a group, which intended to use the vessel as part of a tourist operation in Milford Sound, New Zealand. The operation in New Zealand was not successful and the XPC15 was returned to the US for refit.
